Les Benjamins Unveils “First Wave” Collection: A Sci-Fi Fusion of East and West

Les Benjamins, known for its innovative fashion that bridges the gap between Eastern and Western aesthetics, is back this season with a thrilling sci-fi-inspired collection that’s poised to capture the imagination of fashion enthusiasts worldwide. Titled “First Wave,” this latest arrival celebrates the fusion of traditional Eastern silhouettes and accessories with the iconic styles of otherworldly films, particularly those from the ’80s. Creative director Bunyamin Aydin, with his German-Turkish background, infuses this collection with a unique perspective that pays homage to sci-fi classics while reimagining heritage costumes from the Near-East and Middle East.

 Exploring Cinematic Influences

“First Wave” is a journey into Bunyamin Aydin’s imaginative world, one influenced by his early fascination with sci-fi classics like Dune (1984), Mad Max (1979), and the original Star Wars trilogy. He couldn’t help but notice how these Hollywood films often featured desert landscapes and outfits reminiscent of the Middle East. This intriguing connection led to the creation of a collection that not only draws from Near-Eastern and Middle Eastern heritage but also offers a fresh take on traditional costumes. It’s a melding of cinematic influences and cultural heritage.

 Sartorial Styles Meets Sci-Fi

The Fall/Winter 2023 collection seamlessly blends sartorial styles with streetwear detailing, infusing symbols commonly associated with iconic ‘80s movies. In the men’s line, oversized cargo pants steal the show with their extra baggy fit and oversized pockets, adding a touch of military-inspired form and functionality. Protective yet stylish, jackets include boxy denim jackets and blazers adorned with shoulder pads and strap details. The wave patterns featured in the pieces tie back to the overarching theme of “First Wave.”

 Women’s Fashion Meets Power Suits

The oversized silhouettes showcased in the men’s collection transition effortlessly into the women’s range, where puffer jackets and flowing dresses make a bold statement alongside power suits that pay homage to the ’80s era. To balance these garments, Les Benjamins introduces form-fitting mid-layers, including cinched skirts and tops that draw inspiration from the draping styles of kaftans. The collection also boasts a stunning array of theatrical accessories, including balaclavas, hoods, and rugged caps.

Debut in Korea: A Monumental Chapter

In a groundbreaking move, Les Benjamins makes its debut in Korea this month, marking a monumental chapter in the brand’s journey. To celebrate this milestone, the fashion house collaborates with the retail concept store EMPTY to create an enchanting editorial lookbook that envisions the desert-like universe of “First Wave.” Drawing inspiration from the warm orange, red, and brown hues of the collection, the backdrop beautifully complements the brand’s vision. Creative director Bunyamin Aydin views this collaboration as a bridge connecting different parts of Asia, from the Near East to the Middle East to the Far East, rekindling the spirit of the old Silk Road in the world of fashion.

Les Benjamins’ “First Wave” collection is a testament to the brand’s ability to fuse cultural influences, cinematic nostalgia, and cutting-edge fashion. With its innovative blend of East and West, this collection captures the essence of the past while propelling fashion into the future. As the brand expands its horizons with its debut in Korea, it continues to push the boundaries of creativity, embracing diversity and fostering connections across Asia. “First Wave” is not just a fashion collection; it’s a cultural and cinematic journey that showcases the boundless imagination of Les Benjamins.
